SCOUT TROOP 204 GENERAL INFORMATION
Remember those words from the Walt Disney Classic Movie, Follow Me Boys, starring Fred Mc Murray? It was a movie about traditional boy scouts learning scouting skills, how to be leaders, but above all else how to have fun in the great outdoors.
That's the type of troop 204 is - a traditional Boy Scout Troop with Maple Avenue United Methodist Church as its sponsor.
Scout master Ted Vinson (40 years as a Scoutmaster) heads up a troop that is boy run and boy led. The key focus of troop 204 is built around older boys mentoring to younger boys and helping them to develop scout and leadership skills. The troop has seen 48 boys attain the rank of Eagle Scout - proof that the focus has paid off in giving boys skills they will need in life.
Camping is key to the Boy Scout program and Troop 204 believes in camping. Camping trips occur 11 months out of the year with December being the one exception when the focus is on the Scout Slogan, "Do a good turn daily". The emphasis is about having fun foremost, but also working on scout skills to show boys how to enjoy and protect the great outdoors.
Camping highlights include trips to: Okefenokee Swamp; Andersonville, Desoto Falls, Lake Conesauga, Chickamauga Battlefield, USS Yorktown, and the pinnacle of our year is Summer Camp at Camp Woodruff in Blairsville, GA.
